Abstract
Purpose : The Pedisole is a newly developed shoe-mounted wearable assessment system to assess balance and gait. The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability and the validity of the parameters during static balance and gait in healthy adults.

Methods : Thirty-eight adults (22.4¡¾1.9 years) have participated who had no previous injury experienced in the lower limbs in this study. The balance and gait were performed for the reliability and the validity in all participants at the measurement systems. The balance was analyzed with the smart Pedisole and the Pedoscan system to analyze the path length of the center of pressure (COP) and the weight ratio of left and right for 10 s concurrently. The gait analysis was measured the smart Pedisole and the GaitRite walkway system simultaneously. The participant walked at a self-selected preferred gait speed. The cadence, stance time, swing time, step time were used to analyze gait characteristics. In a paired t-test, the intra-class coefficient correlation (ICC) was calculated for reliability. The Spearman correlation was used to investigate the validity.

Results : The balance data from 36 participants and the gait profile from 37 participants were evaluated. There were significant differences in the COP path length (p<.050) and a significant correlation in the COP path length (r=.382~.523) in the static balance. The ICC for COP path length, weight ratio was found to be greater than ICC=.687, indicating moderate agreement in balance parameters. The ICC of gait parameters was found to be greater than ICC=.697 except for stance time and significant correlation (r=.678~.922) with the GaitRite system.

Conclusion : The newly developed smart insole typed Pedisole system, and the data of an application is a useful reliable and valid tool for the balance and gait analysis compared to the gold standard Pedoscan and the GaitRite system in healthy subjects.
